More maps, maps, maps

Between going to the Green Market and watching a really good Super Bowl game I sat down and made 3 more maps. I should be all done with the maps and ready to draw some artifacts. Can you guess what I'm working on?

Meet Octoquish

Last night while looking for an adventure I spotted this little critter, eating everything in the fridge!!! Don't let his cute appearance fool you. He calls himself Octosquish and can eat like a dragon. I know what you are thinking... how? With what mouth? Somewhere in between that soft, cute, orange fur there's a huge bottomless pit. I'm serious! No joke! I need to keep a constant eye on him, so I moved him to the office where there is nothing he can eat and he can hang with Mr. Gorilla pain. Hopefully they'll get long.

If you want to venture and take any of these two monsters home... they are super friendly and actually like to cuddle. Well anyway, they available at my etsy store.

GUR Miami!!!

Not exactly art related but definitely super fun! This weekend Rhianna, two friends and I did the Great Urban Race Miami. What is GUR? Well think Amazing Race but local. We were team Foo Foo Cuddlie Poop (blame Rhianna for that one) and Joshua and Julio were team Chimi Changa.

We really had no idea what to expect when getting to the race, but soon after starting we where having a blast. We did so much in 3 hours, from a 2 minutes salsa lessons to waxing a surf board, jumping in the air for a picture, getting our nails painted and waiting for the bus... it was run, run, run all over Miami Beach. We'll definitely have to do this again!

Just got the official time. 2:38:03 that's 53rd place out of 107. Not that bad for a first time. First place did it in 1:36:02 THAT"S CRAZY!!!!!

Julio , Rhianna Joshua and I

Yeah! We had to take the bus!

Had to come back to this one. Needed to touch it.

Mr Gorilla Pain

"Giant" Gorilla plush. This was my big project at the Carnival show. Those are bandages all over him and yes! those are 2 gold teeth. He thinks he is the pimp. I'll be taking more pictures of him this week.
For a better idea of how big he is see this picture.

Skateboard Art Show

Skateboard design for the 4th Annual "I'M BOARD" Skateboard Art Show. My original idea was to make something simple. That idea went south really fast. This design ended having more than 100 felt pieces all of them cut and sewn by hand.

Peligroso Azul on vacation

Why stay in the cold of South Florida when the Caribbean is so much warmer? This pass winter Peligroso Azul and I went on a cruise to the Caribbean. We had a blast visiting the beautiful islands of St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Dominica and Barbados.

If you want to see other travels and adventures of Peligroso Azul and his luchador friends join his Facebook group.

Artist Trading Cards

Color pencil and ink.
This is what happens when you scan stuff too quickly. Now I have to wait for the show to end before I can post a descent scan.

By the way this was hand made. Yeah it looks like a vector but is not. I made them while watching TV. It helps when I have two things going on at the same time.

New and revamped artwork

Serene Monsters (acrylic and color pencil)

Señor Luchador (acrylic, markers, ink, gold spray)

Squishy and FrankenOctoKitty (felt and ultra soft)

Pink Luchador (felt, fleece and buttons)

This is some of my new and revamped work, just in time for the upcoming show Small Stuff 3. I revamped some plushies I made earlier this year and made some new paintings based on character sketches. This show opens November 22 and runs through January 9, 2010. Unlike other shows the theme of this event is "cash & carry", in other words, you pay for it, you take it home on the spot. I'm really looking forward to seeing the work made for this show. See you at the gallery early! :) To purchase any piece from the show go here.

Published pictures in Level Magazine

Level Magazine a latin pop culture Miami publication has a new November issue dedicated to "El Día De Los Muertos" (Day of the dead). They were kind enough to publish two of my pictures from Día De Los Muertos, Merida 2007, after finding them through Joshua's flickr (also in the collage). Denn Rodriguez is published on the first and second page of the picture collage, with a name mention on the second page. Get the magazine on stands today or see their virtual publication. (pictures in pages 84-87).
