Main (ST)udio Grand Opening

Even though I have been slow to post this past month has been very busy for me... and it doesn't look like it's slowing down any time soon.

These are pictures of my humble setup at the Main (ST)udio Grand Opening event. This event took place Friday, November 28.

I am very excited to announce that I'll have art in two shows opening this Friday. One show is Stitch Wars Strikes Back at Bear and Bird in FL, the other one is Current at Gallery 464 in NY. Since I can't be in two places at the same time and I had already bought tickets to go to Florida I'll be present at the opening of Stitch Wars. Hope to see some of you there!

Stitch Wars Strikes Back!

The day is almost here! I am so excited!!!.... and a little disappointed that I didn't get to make Princess Leia like I anticipated, but I will still make her even if its not for the art show. Anyway back to excited and good news! My art pieces in the mail. The post office employee said it should be there by Saturday.... but I am expecting them to arrive at Bear and Bird Boutique + Gallery early next week. I have delivery confirmation on the package and will post a retraction next week if it arrives on Saturday. My flight to Florida to assist to the grand opening of Stitch Wars Strikes Back is booked and now I am officially 100% ready for the show! ...are you?

Stitch Wars Strikes Back!

The excitement for this show has been uncontainable!!! ...I wonder, is that a real word? Oh look! It is!

I've been looking forward to Stitch Wars Strikes Back since opening night of Stitch Wars (2009), when Amanda mentioned that she wanted to do it again in a few years. Inside my head I was like, OMG!!! I can't wait! Ever since then I been dreaming nothing but Star Wars.... ok maybe that's taking it a bit too far... the characters have been in my mind since the first show though. Hence the update and multiple re-prints of the Star Wars stickers. I haven't wanted to do the plush dolls outside of the show because I wanted them to be special... ok except for the Friendly Wampa that has been commissioned 4 times. But that's IT, there are only 6 of him in existence! What I am trying to say is that this show is very special to me because it was my first gallery invitation show. I want to Celebrate the upcoming Stitch Wars Strikes Back, so I created my very first Small Tips post, I hope you all enjoy them.

Small Tips : Posts to help and support the plush hand crafting community.

Tip 1. Select your materials. In this case I am using fleece, which is a stretchy material, so I need to make sure that when I cut my pieces they are all stretching to the same side. That is very important to remember, the stuffed plush could look awkward if the material stretches in different directions.


Tip 2. If you have a pattern cut all your fabric first and pin them together. I know we want to get to sewing as soon as possible, but believe me this way saves time and avoids errors/mistakes... oh look at that I forgot the boots and belt buckle.

Tip 3. Save your patterns in plastic bags and label them. I like to save a picture of what the final product should resemble. It helps me remember the design, and of course do multiples if necessary. I also like to write notes on my patterns, specially if its an old pattern and I have learned better ways to do things.

Dr Seuss Live Art Event Recap

Art Nouveau's monthly themed art event took place last night (Wednesday, March 23) at The Lounge in downtown Palm Beach, Florida. What a good time it was! This month's theme was Dr. Seuss. I had the great fortune to be invited to take part in this art show (I had to change my flight a couple of times, but it was very much worth it). These events are the funnest art events I've ever been part of.

At this art show artists are encourage to create their art live at the venue. My main medium being fabric I decided to finish work on a big commissioned piece (sorry not pictured below).

To make a long story short the show was a lot of fun with lots of talented artist painting, drawing, sewing, gluing, burning, spray painting, glass blowing, body painting.... I hope you get the idea. Blink Gallery: Robot 1.0 Artshow

Robot 1.0 at Blink Gallery is officially my first gallery showing in Buffalo, NY. For this event I created a pillow size robot named "Attack of the Cute". I know, I know, it sounds more like a rock band, but we can't all be perfect. This show will run thru October 28th.

This is my cutest creation yet. I am hoping he gets accepted for the Robot 1.0 show at Blink Gallery..... Yes! "Attack of the Cute" will be representing at Blink's upcoming group show. This show will officially be my first participation in an art show in Buffalo, NY.

Zombie Bear 2.0

Is Halloween! The season to be bloody! This guy may be doing an appearance at Guerilla Gallery's Halloween show. If you are in the Buffalo are you should come check it out. I'll be posting more info on that show soon.

Plush You LA @ Munky King

Plush You Los Angeles opened this passed weekend. Three of my pieces were included in this prestigious, invitation-only show. Only 65 crafty plush designers were selected for the first ever installation of Plush You in LA. I am very excited to be a part of this group!

Served Cold Group Art Show

The flier just came out. I'm really excited about this show. Is going to be my first appearance at the Pink Ghost gallery. (Don't know if you noticed but lately everyone keeps using my full name.) Anyway, now I just have to finish the plush....well I got to start it first. The idea is done I just need to start cutting some fabric.

Art You Can Hug : on the paper

Looks like my plush monster Ouch! has turned into the spokes person for the upcoming plush show Art You Can Hug! He was recently featured in the Broward-Palm Beach New Times Magazine and website, and is also on the show's flying. But he won't be making an appearance at the show because he is now happily living in San Francisco.
