How it all started

Luchador hanging on my bag

Luchador key chain

Luchador plush keychain. Made with love and kick ass patience. I'm planing on making an army of them and putting them on my etsy, so stay tuned! Also making them as DIY or PIY canvas plush. Upstate Fancy

What IS Upstate Fancy?

Up•state Fan•cy [uhp-steyt fan-see]

adjective

1. not exorbitant or extravagant by city standards, however in a rural setting ( like upstate new york) it is in fact, quite fancy

2. a wonderful blog dedicated to art, design and other great things that are indeed upstate fancy.

Started in 2008 by graphic designer and all around crafty girl Jen Pepper. Upstate Fancy is dedicated to bringing you a glimpse of things that really stand out from independent designers, artists, and all around crafty people. Sometimes is serious, sometimes it’s silly, but it’s always short and sweet. Just like that peice of vegan treats cake I had the other day, $6.50 for a piece of cake? Now that’s upstate fancy.

New and revamped artwork

Serene Monsters (acrylic and color pencil)

Señor Luchador (acrylic, markers, ink, gold spray)

Squishy and FrankenOctoKitty (felt and ultra soft)

Pink Luchador (felt, fleece and buttons)

This is some of my new and revamped work, just in time for the upcoming show Small Stuff 3. I revamped some plushies I made earlier this year and made some new paintings based on character sketches. This show opens November 22 and runs through January 9, 2010. Unlike other shows the theme of this event is "cash & carry", in other words, you pay for it, you take it home on the spot. I'm really looking forward to seeing the work made for this show. See you at the gallery early! :)

Published pictures in Level Magazine

Level Magazine a latin pop culture Miami publication has a new November issue dedicated to "El Día De Los Muertos" (Day of the dead). They were kind enough to publish two of my pictures from Día De Los Muertos, Merida 2007, after finding them through Joshua's flickr (also in the collage). Denn Rodriguez is published on the first and second page of the picture collage, with a name mention on the second page. Get the magazine on stands today or see their virtual publication. (pictures in pages 84-87).

Painted Señor Luchador in progress

This weekend I started the final piece for Bear and Bird's Small Stuff 3 show, Señor Luchador. He is based on a luchador sketch a did a few weeks back. The background is gold, metallic spray with gloss spray. I still need to do some small shadows, the chest hair and the tattoo. I hope I can finish him this week so I can finally turn everything in to Bear and Bird on Saturday or Sunday.

Zombies Were People To

I spent most of my day fallowing the re-animated body of Lenin today. He says he's come back to make the world a better place. Believe or not he also speaks really good English.

MasterMind Awards® Submission

If you are an artist from the Broward or Palm Beach area you definitely know about the New Times MasterMind Awars®. If you don't... well... I'm sorry. The application deadline was yesterday at 5pm.

Is good to have friends that remind you of these things. I had completely forgotten about it until fellow artist Joshua Surprenant gave me a call to ask if I was submitting something. I spent a good part of my afternoon putting files and links together. I finally got around to putting an artist resume together and I made the deadline, with 30 minutes to spear. Winners will be announced at Artopia. The only thing that's left now to do is to cross my fingers.
